Biography 

Musician, educator, and clinician, Shawn Goodman, is an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Marian University where she teaches clarinet and saxophone.  She is also currently an Associate Instructor of Music Education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she is also completing coursework towards a PhD in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Pedagogy, and is a University Supervisor for Indiana University’s School of Education.  She is an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where she teaches clarinet, flute, and music theory.  Previously, Shawn served as Clarinet Professor at the Butler University School of Music and as a University Supervisor for Butler University’s College of Education. 

Shawn was the clarinet clinician for the Music for All (MFA) National Festival presented by Yamaha in 2015 and 2017, and for MFA's Summer Symposium in 2015. She presents clarinet and jazz workshops regularly to educators and students at music educator conferences, high schools, and middle schools as a Yamaha Performing Artist and Vandoren Regional Artist.

Shawn Goodman placed runner-up in the Sisters-in-Jazz International Collegiate Competition in 2000.  Her first solo album, Not Benny’s Goodman, was released in September 2013, and she is featured on the Wave Mechanics Union albums.  She served as All-State Jazz Coordinator for the Indiana Jazz Educators Association in 2013-15, and previously taught band, orchestra, jazz band, and general music at Andrew J. Brown Academy, Cathedral High School, and Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Music in Education with a concentration in Jazz Studies from the University of Indianapolis, and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from the Butler University School of Music, where she also completed a Graduate Assistantship in Wind Conducting.  Shawn is the Conductor, Founder, and President of the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indianapolis and maintains an active career performing jazz.  Shawn Goodman plays Yamaha clarinets and saxophones exclusively.  www.shawngoodmanjazz.com
